Creating a Live Stream
Capturing a video straight to data storage is not the only thing the Cattura Video CaptureCast™ software can do. The CaptureCast™ appliance also has the ability to live stream the capture to a media streaming sites such as Justin.tv or Ustream.tv, and even Kaltura. Streaming captures is easy. To keep it simple and easy to understand, when you're ready to stream your capture, you'll first want to go to the create or edit a template. From there make the template how you want and when you get to the publishing tab click Live Stream. A drop down menu will appear, fill in all tabs with the correct info, from there you are able to start Live Streaming.
This is the tab where all appropriate live streaming information will be entered. Once all of the information is entered, you can choose to test the template by clicking on the cog to the right of the template.
Make sure that your computer is connected to the internet, or you will not be able to connect at all.

Make sure you are connected to a network
First off, you need an internet connection to be able to stream your captures. You should also note that the quality of your streams are also dependent on on your internet connection and upload speed. The higher your upload speed is the more likely your stream will be of higher quality. This can also be affected by the number of users on your network at the time of streaming. It's best to make sure as few people are using the internet as possible while you are streaming to ensure a higher quality.
Close all unused applications
The stream will have a much higher quality if you turn off all other applications which will affect your upload speed to the stream, such as other stream applications (music streaming such as Spotify or Pandora, video streaming such as YouTube or Hulu) and other uploads.
We recommend only running what you need while streaming, as having extra applications running will slow down your machine since our software encodes the video as it is captured.
When these types of applications are running your upload speed is shared among the processes as well and will cause your stream to offset from the actual capture, causing delays and lag.
Check your encoding settings
It is recommended that you use the web streaming encoding presets available to you in the appliance encoding settings. These presets have the appropriate encoding settings for a quality live streaming capture.
The higher you set the encoding settings for a live stream capture, the lower the quality will be for the live stream. Using these presets will help you to have a good quality capture.
If you know the encoding settings well, and know what settings you need for your live stream, feel free to set the encoding settings as needed, the presets are there to help those who don't know their way around the encoding settings and want to easily and quickly start a stream.
Basically, as a general tip, keep the encoding settings (namely the FPS, and bit rates) as low as you can, and you will have a higher quality stream, as less data is being streamed, and will look much better.
Limit usage of your server while streaming
If too many people are using the server to stream all at the same time, there is a good chance your stream's quality will drop. This is especially true if multiple users are streaming from the same network. As mentioned before, the quality of a stream is highly dependent on the internet connection and upload speed of the network. If quality is important, ensure you are the only user streaming.
